As we prepare to welcome the new year, Geely Holding can look forward with confidence and optimism in 2026.
This will be a special year for Geely Holding, marking the 40th anniversary of our founding. Over the past four decades, our group has undergone a relentless transformation from humble beginnings in Taizhou, to becoming a global intelligent technology enterprise. We owe this progress to the perseverance and hard work of all our colleagues.
So, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude and New Year greetings to everyone in the wider Geely family, to our trusted users and partners, and to friends who have supported our development.
Geely’s history is one of proactive transformations and rising to challenges. In 1986, amid the opening-up of China, Geely seized the “critical moment” of opportunity and embarked on its entrepreneurial journey. From refrigerator parts to decorative materials, then to motorcycles, the hardships and explorations of our early days sharpened our market instincts and forged resilience, laying a solid foundation for future development.
On the eve of the new millennium, when Geely decided to focus on the automobile industry despite barriers, technological gaps, and overwhelming skepticism. However, by sticking to the simple belief of making “good cars ordinary people can afford”, we built up a successful business.
In 2007, we issued the Ningbo Declaration, switching our focus from a low-price strategy to leadership in technology and quality. This transition brought its own challenges, but we persevered to lay a solid foundation of management, R&D, and system capabilities that elevated Geely and set us up for our next era.
The 2010 acquisition of Volvo Cars returned the tiger to the mountains and marked a critical moment in Geely Holding’s globalization journey. We set out to achieve mutual empowerment and win-win cooperation with Volvo, gaining invaluable experience for our global strategy and taking the first step to our uniquely successful global portfolio structure that we see today.
Our latest transformative moment came in 2024, as the wave of electrification and intelligence continued to reshape the automotive industry. Amid accelerating changes in the competitive landscape, we issued the Taizhou Declaration, systematically proposing five strategic pillars: focus, integration, synergy, resilience, and talent development. We launched a series of initiatives to concentrate on our core automotive business, build a technology ecosystem, enhance competitiveness, and advance our global presence.
Looking back, Geely Holding’s history has been one of innovation, entrepreneurship, and bold practice, daring to break tradition and make decisive choices, while relentlessly striving to deliver superior high quality products that everyone can afford. This outlook persists to this day.
This year has been another year of innovation, growth and internal transformation as we embedded the philosophy of the Taizhou Declaration. Our brands have deepened their collaboration and integration, evident in growing levels of expertise and technology sharing that has strengthened our offerings, as well as the expansion of major external partnerships such as our joint venture with Renault in Brazil, the creation of Horse Powertrain, and the Automotive High-Tech Valley in Malaysia.
We are also investing in our people around the world, now employing over 140,000 people including about 40,000 global talents from all over the world. Geely’s greatest strength has always been its people.
Looking ahead to 2026, we expect to face both challenges and opportunities. The global political and economic landscape is undergoing profound changes, a new wave of technological revolution is advancing, and the automotive industry is surging with electrification, intelligence, and connectivity. New competitors and business models are emerging. The industry is facing multi-faceted challenges based around costs, technology, and scale. Automotive intelligence is evolving from “functional intelligence” to “scenario-based intelligence” and from “single vehicle” to “global connectivity.” The rapidly maturing AI capabilities are accelerating the transformation of vehicles from tools of transportation to “intelligent mobile terminals, energy storage units, and digital spaces.”
This is both a strategic window of opportunity and a critical moment where risks and challenges converge. How to enhance our ability to navigate challenges and cycles while maintaining strategic focus will be the core question for Geely Holding as we embrace our 40th year.
As we tackle these questions, we will remain relentlessly focused on further deepening the transformation toward electrification and intelligence, striving for openness and cooperation, and upholding the philosophy of user-centricity that has brought us so far. We will resolutely increase our efforts in innovation of core areas such as new energy, vehicle safety, intelligent connectivity, and AI. We will focus on how to make technology that “serves people,” improve corporate efficiency, and create intelligent products with emotion, warmth, and the ability to evolve, ensuring that Geely Holding remains a reliable partner to all users.
Future competition will no longer be about single products or brands but “platforms and ecosystems.” Geely will deepen the expansion of our integrated space-ground three-dimensional mobility ecosystem, connecting vehicles and people to the cloud, to satellites, and to the world.
Open collaboration is the best path forward to technological evolution. Commercial success must resonate with human happiness and sustainable development. As always, Geely will adhere to open and win-win cooperation with partners at home and abroad to build a safe, green, sustainable automotive industry ecosystem. Doing so strengthens our foundations and stimulates the vitality of our talents.
Friends and colleagues, forty years of choices and hard work at countless “critical moments” have made Geely who we are today. Looking at the future, the road may not always be smooth, but we are full of confidence. This confidence comes from experience, it comes from the fundamental strengths built up layer by layer, it comes from the adherence and practice of our core values.
In the New Year, may we continue to strive together, persevere without waver, and jointly create a new future of green and intelligent mobility.
