Geely Auto Becomes World's First Automaker to Earn ISO/PAS 8800 Certification for Road Vehicle Safety and AI
Jun 23, 2025

Hangzhou, China, June 24, 2025 — Geely Auto has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first global automaker to secure ISO/PAS 8800 certification for its road vehicle safety and AI systems.

The accreditation from Germany's DAkkS (German Accreditation Body) confirms Geely Auto's robust engineering expertise in three key international standards: functional safety, expected functional safety, and AI safety.

DAkkS is the national accreditation authority of Germany, which has been firmly anchored in the European and international accreditation structures since 2010. It is a member of the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA), and the International Accreditation Forum, Inc. (IAF).

ISO/PAS 8800, introduced by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in December 2024, represents the first global authoritative standard for artificial intelligence safety in the road vehicle sector. Its introduction marks a pivotal shift in automotive AI safety from mere "safety compliance" to a comprehensive "full lifecycle safety" approach.

ISO Certification

Geely Auto is building a comprehensive AI safety system through technological innovation, streamlined processes, and strategic partnerships. This system covers functions, systems, software, hardware, chips, and supply chains. With its globally recognized all-domain safety framework, Geely has passed the EU SGS audit and earned official certification from DAkkS in Europe.

Safety remains a top priority in Geely's automotive manufacturing philosophy. The company holds 1,562 patents in vehicle safety technologies, according to the China Automotive Technology and Research Center—a testament to its R&D commitment. This achievement builds on Geely's prior certifications, including dual ISO 26262 functional safety certifications from DAkkS in Germany and ANAB in the United States, as well as ISO 21448 expected functional safety certification from ANAB in the United States.

International recognition affirms Geely's systems, but the company sees certification as just the beginning. To implement ISO/PAS 8800, Geely has introduced specialized technical training programs on AI safety lifecycle management, safety requirement analysis, and data governance. These efforts strengthen engineering teams' safety expertise and align internal development processes with the standard's requirements.

As AI technologies evolve, so do methods for designing secure AI systems. Geely is committed to enhancing AI safety through innovation, ensuring intelligent driving features offer both performance and protection.
