[Feb.9, Hangzhou] – On February 9, Geely brand new energy vehicles (NEV) of Geely Auto, completed a cross-border winter endurance program spanning Sweden and Norway, covering more than 1,000 kilometers without recharging. The program culminated in a nonstop drive to the Arctic Ocean by Geely brand NEV’s hybrid lineup — Geely V900*, Geely M9*, Geely EX5 EM-i, Geely XingYao 8*, Geely A7*, and Geely XingYao 6* — validating long-distance performance under sustained sub-zero conditions. The full vehicle range also underwent extreme-cold testing at Northern Europe’s Colmis Proving Ground, the highest-latitude automotive test facility in the Eurasian region.
This initiative marks the first time an independent Chinese automotive brand has conducted an Arctic Circle winter validation across its entire portfolio. It is also the first Arctic test program to encompass all mainstream new energy powertrains — battery electric, hybrid, extended-range, and methanol — demonstrating comprehensive cold-climate capability across multiple propulsion technologies.
Engineering Validation in One of the World’s Harshest Environments
For this expedition, Geely brand NEV selected high-latitude locations in Northern Europe to confront extreme conditions, including severe humidity, black ice, and polar-night low-light environments. These settings provided an authentic simulation of real-world driving scenarios in cold, high-latitude regions.
The combination of sub-zero temperatures, high humidity, and limited visibility placed stringent demands on vehicle sealing, thermal management systems, and intelligent driving sensor performance.
The Arctic validation program evaluated multiple critical systems, including:
In addition, vehicle handling on low-adhesion surfaces, thermal management efficiency, and durability—including sealing integrity under repeated freeze-thaw cycles—were rigorously assessed, delivering comprehensive validation of performance and stability in extreme cold environments.
A Global Testing Network Supporting Scalable Innovation
Geely brand NEV has established a multi-environment validation system covering extreme cold, high heat, high humidity, high altitude, desert, and performance track conditions.
Six core facilities including Hangzhou Bay in southern China and Europe form an integrated global development loop spanning R&D, validation, and product iteration. This framework supports worldwide model development while ensuring consistent engineering standards across markets.
Geely plans to expand to 16 global test bases in the coming years, further strengthening its all-weather, all-terrain, and full-scenario vehicle development capabilities.
From Arctic Data to Continuous Product Evolution
In 2025, Geely brand NEV became the fastest new energy lineup in China to surpass one million cumulative sales. In January 2026, it achieved a new monthly sales record, contributing to Geely Auto’s leadership position in Chinese passenger vehicle market.
The Arctic program represents more than a symbolic milestone. The data collected under sustained extreme conditions will feed directly into future product refinement cycles. Insights from thermal performance, traction control calibration, sensor reliability, and system durability will inform ongoing engineering upgrades across the portfolio.
By grounding product development in real-world extremes, Geely brand NEV continues to strengthen reliability, safety margins, and performance consistency — ensuring that technological advancement translates into tangible benefits for customers in everyday driving conditions.
*Please Note: Models such as the Geely V900, Geely M9, Geely XingYao 8, Geely A7, and Geely XingYao 6 are currently only available in China and do not yet have official international market designations.
